The market for newly made swords in Japan has continually decreased since the introduction of firearms in Japan, forever transforming the art into what it is today.  With the exception of a brief disruption during WWII, Japanese sword smiths are the eldest sword making lineage of any society in the world.  Today, sword smiths in Japan reaching great achievements are recognized as living national treasures.

A preservation system for the art has been established in Japan, but the demand for newly made Japanese swords in Japan has continually declined over the decades.  The flood of inferior factory swords and the focus of sword appreciation toward the works of historical artists make the life of current artists a struggle any art market could resonate with.  Like the majority of any artist’s work, its true value is only achieved beyond their ability to create more.

Tamahagane Arts has created several sword smith related events, with more to come.  The events are intended to provide access to hands on interaction with Fusataro while he visits North America.  The events listed on the website range from courses, demonstrations, presentations as well as casual meet & greet opportunities.  There will also be events not publically posted, information for which can be acquired by attending any posted event or by contacting Tamahagane Arts.

Fusataro will be in Toronto as of September 10th.  Listed at this website are all events related to Fustaro’s visit and registration can be initiated at the bottom of any event page that requires it:http://tamahagane.com/

Events will occur in Toronto & surrounding area, New Hampshire and Minneapolis beginning September 13, 2013 in Toronto.

Fusataro is one of no more than 200 practicing sword smiths remaining in Japan.  He is recognized by the Japanese Government as a licensed master and has taken it upon himself to elevate the profile of the Japanese sword made in today’s world to people outside of Japan.  As such, while on his sanctioned visit to North America he remains available for interview and/or including you on events we’ve created or yet to formalize.  Please contact us to explore our story. http://tamahagane.com/
